From the Principal’s Desk: I am wondering if anyone is interested in a book club meeting following the March break to discuss the book The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt. Here is a brief description: In "The Anxious Generation", Haidt shows how, between 2010 and 2015, childhood and adolescence got rewired. As teens traded in their flip phones for smartphones packed with social media apps, time online soared, including time spent comparing oneself to a vast pool of others. Time engaging face-to-face with friends and family plummeted, and so did mental health. Please send me an email at [email protected] if you are interested in meeting with other parents in our library to discuss the ideas and strategies shared in the book. I will provide coffee, tea, and snacks for those who attend. If you need a copy of the book, let me know. Be sure to include the best time of day and day of the week for you to meet. I will send an email confirming the date and time of our meeting based on responses. I am looking forward to a rich discussion!

Camp Olympia for Gr. 8’s and Camp Kandalore for Gr. 7’s
- The deposit and permission form for these trips are now available through schoolcash online.
- Camp Olympia for the Grade 8’s is May 27 to 29 (deposit due by Feb. 13, 2026)
- Camp Kandalore for the Grade 7’s is May 11 to 13 (deposit due by Feb. 20, 2026)

Grade 7/8 Social Night
The Sunnybrae School Council would like to invite your Grade 7 or 8 child to our first Intermediate Night on Thursday February 19th, from 5-7pm! In consultation with our Intermediate students, we have designed this event as a Social Night as well as a Fundraiser to help offset costs for the Grade 7 & 8 end-of-year trip. We will have games and activities for the students, as well as pizza and soft drinks! The cost per student is $15, which entities each student to two slices of pizza, one can of pop, and a bag of popcorn. Extra cans of pop will be available for sale for $1 on the night. Sign up through schoolcash online! Deadline to sign up is Tuesday February 17th. Hope to see your Grade 7/8 child there!

Carnaval de Sunnybrae
- Our school is gearing up for an unforgettable event – the upcoming Winter Carnival based on Le Carnaval d’hiver in Quebec City. Tuesday, February 17th, we will transform our school yard into a winter wonderland filled with joy, laughter, and festive activities for students in Grades 1-8. Our Kindergarten classes will have a Winter fun celebration on a later date. (In the case of inclement weather, the carnival will be postponed to the following day, February 18th.)
- Please ensure your child is dressed warmly with layers, hats, gloves, snowpants and waterproof boots. Please send extra socks and mittens/gloves. We want everyone to stay cozy and enjoy the festivities to the fullest.
- Additionally, we are in search of enthusiastic parents who would like to contribute to the success of the Winter Carnival by volunteering. If you are on the approved volunteer list and are available and willing to help, please contact Danielle Shannon at [email protected]. Joyeux Carnaval!

Hot Lunch Program

- For any order cancellations, please notify lunchbox 2 days prior to the delivery date. Lunches will not be kept for students who are absent on the day of the lunch.
- If there is a school closure, lunches will be cancelled, and a credit will be issued to your Lunchbox account within 3 business days.

Safe Arrival system for SCDSB schools –email [email protected] or call 1-888-885-8065 or to report an absence (we recommend using the email system). Parents/guardians are responsible to report a child’s absence/arriving late prior to the start of the school day. Do not wait for the call from the school. Please note: the safe arrival number and email are to be used only to notify the school if your child will be late or absent. It is not for notification of changes in pick up, busing, etc.
On days when buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, the Safe Arrival program continues. For parents/guardians of students who ride the bus on these days, if you receive a call and believe that your child should be in attendance, you are asked to please call the school. Otherwise, the school will assume that you are aware of your child's absence
