Bulldog Bulletin - January 27 to 31, 2025
Our Grade 7 students enjoyed a cold but fun-filled trip to Camp Kandalore this week. They participated in many outdoor activities including cross country skiing, high ropes, mattress sledding, man hunt at night, snowshoeing, quinzee building and map orienteering followed by warming up in the chalet. Thank you to Mr. Butcher, Mrs. Gunson and Ms. Misener for volunteering their time to provide this amazing experience! Hewitt’s Creek hosted a chess tournament on Wednesday and the students in our chess club represented Sunnybrae proudly. Thanks to Mrs. McKay and Mr. Zwezdaryk for leading this group.
For those of you wondering about the cold temperatures and outdoor activity, here is a blurb from APM7030: "In Ontario, ECCC issues “Extreme Cold” warnings when the temperature or wind chill is expected to reach -30°C for at least two hours. The Canadian Paediatric Society, SMDHU and the SCDSB recommend that children be kept indoors if the temperature falls below -25°C, or if the wind chill is -27°C or greater (Canadian Paediatric Society). Exposed skin will begin to freeze at -27°C."
However, we will schedule indoor recesses or shorten recess when temperatures fall between -15° to -27° (with or without windchill); and provide opportunities for students to come indoors to warm up as needed.
