Scholastic Book Fair
Our Scholastic Book Fair will run from Monday, June 8th to Thursday, June 11th in the library. Families are also invited to visit during the Family Fun Fair evening!
Summer reading is so important for helping students continue building strong literacy skills and a love of reading. Every purchase from the Book Fair helps support our library by providing new books and learning materials for students' enjoyment.
Thank you for supporting our school library learning commons. We look forward to seeing you at the Book Fair!
Zone B Regional Track & Field Meet - Wednesday, June 10th (raindate June 12th)
This event will be open to students who have been SELECTED by Sunnybrae staff based on the results of our school meet. You will be notified by June 3rd if your son/daughter has been chosen to represent Sunnybrae at this interschool competition.
- A note about the selection process - at our school meet held on May 26th, students were able to sign up for the events that they wished to participate in on an individual basis. The Regional Meet is a TEAM EVENT and students are no longer able to choose which events they would like to do. If a student participated in an event at the school meet, it is assumed that they would be available to represent our school in that event if they performed well. The coaches spend a lot of time trying to coordinate the best combination of athletes that will allow Sunnybrae to earn the highest points possible. This year there will be a banner for the school that earns the most points. There are many factors that go into these decisions including, maximizing the number of participants, the restrictions on how many events an individual can compete in, how competitive an athlete’s time/measurement will be, and the difference between an athlete’s time/measurement and the next closest participant. In many cases, the person who finished first or second in an event may not be selected to compete in that event at regionals. No changes can be made once the entries have been registered. If there is a legitimate reason why your son/daughter will not be available to attend the regional meet, please contact Mrs. Gallant as soon as possible so a replacement can be entered if before the deadline of June 4th.
Here are all the important details for this year’s meet:
- LOCATION - the field at Nantyr is under construction so it is NOT available for our use. This year’s meet will once again be held at Maple Ridge Secondary School (225 Prince William Way, Barrie) which is on the south side of Mapleview Drive, just east of Yonge St.
- NUMBER OF SCHOOLS - there will be 6 schools competing at this event (the other schools are competing in the Zone A Regional Meet).
- NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS - due to a decreased number of schools participating since last year, we were able to increase the number of athletes that each school can bring back to 2 athletes in each age group per event (except for some long-distance races that have combined age groupings) There is still a maximum of 3 events (plus relay) per student.
- SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - we will be following the same schedule of events as last year. The 1500 m races (all ages and genders) will still be held first thing in the morning (8:00 am start). The relays will be held immediately following the 1500 m. First the girls’ teams and then the boys’ teams. This means that any students selected to run the relay MUST arrive at Maple Ridge by 8:45 am! The girls field events will begin at 9:30 am and the boys track events (starting with the 800m) will begin around 10:30 am.
More information and a detailed schedule will be sent home with students who qualify by June 3rd. It is the responsibility of the student and his/her family to arrange transportation to and from the event if they are selected to participate. Please make note of the times as this event extends beyond the regular school hours.
