From the Principal’s Desk: Great news! We have been selected as the 2026 recipients of the Tim Horton's Smile Cookie Campaign again this year! It will run from April 27-May 3. Council has voted to raise funds for Special Education resources, STEAM activities and technology. Watch for upcoming promotions and opportunities to order your Tim Horton’s needs in bulk. Thanks for your support!
Our next council meeting has been changed to Wednesday April 1st from 5:30-6:30 in the library followed by the Town Hall meeting from 7:00-8:00. The Council will be sharing options for revitalizing our yard using the monies raised over the past four years. Please join us to share your thoughts on this initiative.
Our Superintendent, Kelly Lalonde, visited our school on Wednesday. She loved seeing small group instruction, use of Knowledgehook, and vertical learning happening in our classrooms. Mrs. Moffitt and I were proud of how our students made her feel welcome in our school.
Teachers will be placing students in classes in May based on projected numbers for next year. E-mails stating the name of your child(ren)’s teacher(s) will be sent the last week of August. Turnaround day takes place near the end of September, so this placement is subject to change should our numbers change. Requests for specific teachers are difficult to honour as teachers may not be teaching the same grade, and class placements are based on balancing classes to the best of our abilities taking into consideration the strengths and needs of all our students. If you have a request based on the learning needs of your student, please send an email to [email protected] with the understanding that we will do our best to accommodate, but cannot guarantee a specific teacher. Thank you for your understanding.

Webinar Series on Mental Health and substance use
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) invites parents/guardians to register for a free, four-part webinar series focused on mental health and substance use, hosted by School Mental Health Ontario (SMHO). Each webinar in the By Your Side series will feature a presentation by leading experts. The topics to be covered are:
- Vaping — April 10
- Body image — May 7
- Anxiety — June 5
Participating parents/guardians are invited to provide questions related to these topics in advance so they can be addressed during the related session. Each session will also include time for a live question-and-answer period.

A note from the Sunnybrae Parent Council:
Despite several years of dedicated effort, the cost of purchasing, installing, and maintaining a traditional playground climbing apparatus continues to outpace our community’s ability to fundraise. However, there are many other options for schoolyard play equipment that are within our reach. The Sunnybrae Parent Council would like to invite parents and community members to a Town Hall-style meeting to gather input and discuss options.

Kidney Clothes Fundraiser
Kidney Clothes drive will run from April 13th to 17th. Families can drop off at the front door of the school or directly to Kidney clothes at 570 Bryne Dr, Unit J, Barrie.

Hot Lunch Program

- For any order cancellations, please notify lunchbox 2 days prior to the delivery date. Lunches will not be kept for students who are absent on the day of the lunch.
- If there is a school closure, lunches will be cancelled, and a credit will be issued to your Lunchbox account within 3 business days.

Safe Arrival system for SCDSB schools –email [email protected] or call 1-888-885-8065 or to report an absence (we recommend using the email system). Parents/guardians are responsible to report a child’s absence/arriving late prior to the start of the school day. Do not wait for the call from the school. Please note: the safe arrival number and email are to be used only to notify the school if your child will be late or absent. It is not for notification of changes in pick up, busing, etc.
On days when buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, the Safe Arrival program continues. For parents/guardians of students who ride the bus on these days, if you receive a call and believe that your child should be in attendance, you are asked to please call the school. Otherwise, the school will assume that you are aware of your child's absence
