From the Principal’s Desk:
This month, Sunnybrae students have been "paw-sitively" awesome, making a difference for themselves and others! When your child is caught doing something great, educators have been handing out our "Paw-sitive" slips for a weekly draw. At the end of the week, these slips will come home with students, so be on the lookout for your child making a difference here at Sunnybrae!
We had a presentation-filled week with the dairy workshops, the Olympics assembly, and a field trip to see Oro’s Promise at Georgian Theatre. Thank you again to Sarah and James McNaughton for inspiring our students to see setbacks as learning opportunities, to always put forth their best efforts, and to dream big.
Just a reminder of our upcoming book club “The Anxious Generation”. We will meet on March 27that 11:30 a.m. in the library for those who are available during the day and at 4:00 p.m. on March 30th for those who are available in the evening. I have copies of the book for anyone who wishes to join. Please send an email to [email protected] if you would like to join us.

Sharing Information
- Tryouts for the junior girls' and boys’ basketball team will begin the week of March 9, 2026, and tryouts for the co-ed intermediate rugby team will begin March 23, 2026. Tryouts will take place during the school day and students wanting to try out must have proper footwear to participate. We encourage all interested students to participate and showcase their skills. Parents and guardians are reminded to review the Ophea safety requirements ahead of tryouts to stay informed about any associated risks and help ensure a safe and positive experience for all. We are excited to offer this opportunity for students to get involved, build team spirit, and showcase their talents.
Webinar Series on Mental Health and substance use
The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) invites parents/guardians to register for a free, four-part webinar series focused on mental health and substance use, hosted by School Mental Health Ontario (SMHO). Each webinar in the By Your Side series will feature a presentation by leading experts. The topics to be covered are:
- Balanced device use — March 5
- Vaping — April 10
- Body image — May 7
- Anxiety — June 5
Participating parents/guardians are invited to provide questions related to these topics in advance so they can be addressed during the related session. Each session will also include time for a live question-and-answer period.

A note from the Sunnybrae Parent Council:
Despite several years of dedicated effort, the cost of purchasing, installing, and maintaining a traditional playground climbing apparatus continues to outpace our community’s ability to fundraise. However, there are many other options for schoolyard play equipment that are within our reach. The Sunnybrae Parent Council would like to invite parents and community members to a Town Hall-style meeting to gather input and discuss options.

Hot Lunch Program

- For any order cancellations, please notify lunchbox 2 days prior to the delivery date. Lunches will not be kept for students who are absent on the day of the lunch.
- If there is a school closure, lunches will be cancelled, and a credit will be issued to your Lunchbox account within 3 business days.

Safe Arrival system for SCDSB schools –email [email protected] or call 1-888-885-8065 or to report an absence (we recommend using the email system). Parents/guardians are responsible to report a child’s absence/arriving late prior to the start of the school day. Do not wait for the call from the school. Please note: the safe arrival number and email are to be used only to notify the school if your child will be late or absent. It is not for notification of changes in pick up, busing, etc.
On days when buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, the Safe Arrival program continues. For parents/guardians of students who ride the bus on these days, if you receive a call and believe that your child should be in attendance, you are asked to please call the school. Otherwise, the school will assume that you are aware of your child's absence
