Principal’s Message: We have a new clerk/steno in our office on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Welcome to Mrs. Jen McKay! We will be hosting a costume parade on October 31st. This year, students will walk the track at 9:20, and families are welcome to watch from the outside of the track. Please ensure that your child’s costume does not include any weapons, a mask, or may be considered culturally offensive. As we have many staff and students with severe food allergies, we ask that you not send in any candy or food for sharing. Finally, last week, I mentioned the Primary Fun Run. Reminder about Halloween
Please ensure that your child does not bring any weapons or masks to school. In anticipation of Hallowe’en, the SCDSB has reminded us that dressing up for Halloween is fun and exciting but depending on our costume, it risks being offensive to other cultures. It is important not to inadvertently mimic culture by culturally appropriating racial, religious, or ethnic groups. Some critical equity questions to reflect on about costume choices are:
- Is the costume depicting and perpetuating a stereotype or stigma associated with a particular race, culture, or religion?
- Does the costume include a replication of a garment that is a significant component of a particular religion or culture with which the costume wearer does not identify with?
- Is the costume depicting a historical time where that look/costume is now considered offensive and discriminatory?
- Does the costume represent elements of a culture or cultural practice being commoditized for consumption?
- Can a person look in the mirror and confidently say that the costume choice would not be considered offensive to a particular race, ethnic origin, gender or religion?
Movie Night – Coco on October 30th
Hey, Bulldog families! Spooky Season is here, and we’re ready to celebrate with our first Movie Night!
On Thursday, October 30th, we will be showing Pixar's Coco (rated PG) in the gym! For just $10 your child will get a movie, popcorn, and a drink, and you get two hours of calm to prepare for the big night on the 31st.
Drop-off starts at 6:00 pm, movie starts at 6:15 pm. There will be supervised activities available in the library for kids who need a break. Pick-up is at 8:00 pm. Pick up and drop off are at the front door of the school.

- If there is a school closure, lunches will be cancelled, and a credit will be issued to your Lunchbox account within 3 business days.

Safe Arrival system for SCDSB schools –email [email protected] or call 1-888-885-8065 or to report an absence (we recommend using the email system). Parents/guardians are responsible to report a child’s absence/arriving late prior to the start of the school day. Do not wait for the call from the school. Please note: the safe arrival number and email are to be used only to notify the school if your child will be late or absent. It is not for notification of changes in pick up, busing, etc.
