Author Visit for Gr. 4 to 8 Students

As part of our continued commitment to keeping parents/guardians informed and engaged, we are excited to share details about an upcoming presentation at our school.

Presentation title: Short Story Writing Contest Introduction – How to Fail

Date: Monday, September 16, 2024

Grades: Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8

Time: 2-3 p.m.

Guest speaker(s): We are fortunate to have Erin Bow, Canadian author and Amy Eastwood from Innisfil ideaLAB and Library joining us. Erin Bow is an award-winning Canadian author who has published several pieces of literature.

Purpose and focus: The presentation, entitled "How to Fail," is a funny presentation on how Erin became an author by failing every step of the way. It will delve into her creative process, but the heart of the presentation is about grit, growth, and being a little easier on yourself. Erin Bow will be the author who is judging the short story writing contest this year, so is here to generate excitement over writing and the contest. This opportunity supports the SCDSB Strategic Priorities of Well-Being, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Community, and/or Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

Agenda:

•           Introduction of the Innisfil ideaLAB short story contest

•           Erin Bow’s presentation “How to Fail”
