Bulldog Bulletin September 28 to October 2, 2026

From the Principal’s Desk:

What an amazing week it has been at Sunnybrae! Our school community continues to impress with its generosity, school spirit, and commitment to supporting one another.

A huge thank you goes out to our students, families, and staff for their support of the Terry Fox Foundation. Together, we raised over $1,700 in support of cancer research. We were also fortunate to enjoy a beautiful Saturday afternoon for our Terry Fox Run, with students, families, and staff coming together to celebrate Terry's legacy of courage, determination, and hope.

Our athletic programs have also been very busy. Our Cross Country Team, Primary Fun Run participants, and Flag Football Team have been working hard and are gearing up for upcoming meets and games. We are proud of the dedication, teamwork, and Bulldog spirit our students continue to demonstrate both on and off the field.

On Tuesday, we were excited to host our Barrie Colts Sunnybrae Assembly. The energy in the gym was outstanding, and students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with members of the Colts organization. We look forward to welcoming many of our Sunnybrae families to the game on October 8. Tickets are available now through School Cash Online.

As we look ahead to next week, we will be recognizing Truth and Reconciliation Day and encouraging all students and staff to wear orange on Wednesday as a symbol of remembrance, reflection, and commitment to reconciliation. Orange Shirt Day honours the experiences of Indigenous children who attended residential schools and reminds us of the importance of learning from the past while working together toward a more equitable future. Throughout the week, students will participate in age-appropriate learning opportunities that help deepen their understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, perspectives, and the ongoing journey of reconciliation in Canada.

Elementary Turnaround Day will take place on Tuesday. Considerable planning and collaboration have gone into preparing for this transition, and our staff team has worked very hard to ensure as much consistency as possible for students. We appreciate everyone's flexibility and support as we move through this process.

We also look forward to welcoming families to our Meet the Educator Night on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity to visit classrooms, connect with staff, and learn more about your child's educational journey this year.

To make the evening even more enjoyable, families will have the opportunity to purchase a discounted Refs Pizza. Pizza can be enjoyed in our Bulldog Café during the event or taken home to enjoy with your family. Orders are available through School Cash Online. (Took out)

Thank you for your continued support of Sunnybrae Public School. Together, we are building a strong, caring, and connected school community. We look forward to seeing everyone at Meet the Educator Night next Thursday!

Have a wonderful weekend, Bulldogs!

Re-organization day balances class sizes to support your child's success

Each year, our school starts off with a certain number of classes and teachers—these numbers are based on estimates made the previous spring about how many students will be enrolled during the next school year.

As you may be aware, the Ministry of Education has class size goals that all school boards are required to meet. When the Simcoe County District School Board organized its schools in the spring, they adhered to this ministry expectation.

Each September, the board compares actual enrolment numbers to the numbers projected by the board in the spring. At times it is necessary to re-organize classes.

After re-organization, some students may move to another class to balance class sizes so that we can adhere to the government's expectation. In some cases, it may be necessary to move teachers to a new school.

If your child is affected by the change, you will receive a letter with details following re-organization. Please be assured that these changes will not affect the quality of education your child will receive at Sunnybrae. Our staff have the skills, training and resources to work effectively with students in a variety of settings.

Grade 7 Immunizations

All Grade 7 students are once again being offered three free vaccines through the health unit’s school immunization program. These vaccines include Hepatitis B (Hep B), Human Papillomavirus vaccine (HPV) and Meningococcal. The clinics for these three vaccines are being scheduled for Grade 7 students starting this fall. While all three vaccines are strongly recommended, Meningococcal vaccine is required by law, under the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA), for school attendance. For more information about routine vaccinations, visit the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit Grade 7 Immunization Program page. https://www.simcoemuskokahealth.org/HealthUnit/Workplaces/Schools/School-Health-Topics/Immunization
