Entry/Exit Process

Supervision for students begins at 8:55 am. Students should not arrive before this time.

Entry time is 9:10 am. Anyone arriving after this time will need to enter through the main entry door and sign in at the office.

To protect the safety of students, we ask parents/guardians to remain outside of the fenced area when dropping off children. To avoid congestion, please keep the gates to the school yard clear.

Please do not use the school parking lot for drop-off or pick up. If you choose to drive to school, please use Glenn Avenue/Sunnybrae Avenue to park and meet students at the proper gate.

Kindergarten – enter/exit at the middle gate beside Glenn Avenue (by the basketball

court) and a staff member will greet your child and take them into the yard.

Primary (Gr. 1-3) - enter/exit at the end gate beside Glenn Avenue

Junior/Intermediate students (Gr. 4-8) will enter through the walkway off Sunnybrae Avenue. They may also enter through the primary gate off Glenn Avenue and walk across the yard.

Early pick up

Students will remain in their classroom until a parent or emergency designate arrives at the school for pick up. The student will be released at the office once proper identification is provided. ID may be requested.

If you are picking your child up early, please send a note to your child’s teacher. They must be signed out by an adult on their emergency list. Please understand that messages delivered after 3:00 p.m. may not be delivered on time.

Lunch Permission

Students in grades 4-8 who would like to leave school property to go out for lunch must have written parent/guardian consent each day to do so.

Parent/guardians can allow their child to decide whether they will leave school property during the lunch break from 1:10 to 1:50 pm throughout the school year. This permission must be completed through schoolcash online (Student Acknowledgement Form). The student agrees to sign out in the classroom before leaving and agrees to return to the school on time. The school does not monitor their activities while off school property so parental guidance on proper conduct is imperative. Food purchased off site must be consumed off site. Due to bee/wasp allergies, we do not allow the consumption of food in the yard.

Parents/guardians may also send a note to their child’s teacher each time they give their child permission to leave the school during the lunch break from 1:10 to 1:50 pm. We cannot accept verbal permission over the phone if your child forgets their note.

Items to Bring

(Be sure to label

each item)

  • Backpack
  • Reusable Water Bottle: There are refillable water stations.
  • Indoor Shoes: Please ensure they are the type they can put on and off by
  • Themselves. Students will need appropriate running shoes for gym class.
  • Lunch & Snacks: Must be peanut & nut free.
  • Extra set of clothes & appropriate outdoor gear for the season

Optional: Families may choose to send the following items with their child:

pencil case/container, pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener, markers, pencil crayons, (crayons for younger grades), ruler, calculator (Junior/Intermediate), white board markers, and a glue stick.

Students are encouraged to limit the number of personal items they bring to school to only essential items. Items may become damaged or lost at school and staff may not be able to assist students locating or repairing their property.

Cell Phones

Our school is equipped with telephones in every classroom. Arrangements for or changes to after-school activities must be made in advance before arrival at school. Of course, there are times when family emergencies arise, and a call is necessary. Parents can contact the teacher directly via email and request that their child call home using a school phone.

Cell phones are to be off and away while students are at school. If a phone is used

inappropriately, the phone will be placed in a secure location and the student may pick it up at the end of the day. In more serious circumstances, the parent will be required to pick up the phone. The school is not responsible in any way for lost, broken, damaged or stolen phones. We thank you for your cooperation, support and for working with your child to develop responsible and healthy habits.

www.simcoecountyschoolbus.ca Our school is in the Central Zone. When buses are

cancelled, schools remain open for student learning, unless otherwise noted.

Volunteers/

Visitors

The SCDSB encourages participation of volunteers in schools and recognizes the

educational advantages to all concerned. Volunteers are asked to provide an original

copy of a Criminal Records Check which includes Vulnerable Sector screening.

Volunteers work under the direction of the principal and school staff. Should you wish to join our team of volunteers, please contact the school office. An in-school training session for new volunteers will also be provided by the administration.

Visitors should always sign in at the office and receive an identification tag. Our students are told to look for these tags when they see someone they do not recognize.

Any meetings with teachers should be pre-arranged. Do not go to your child’s classroom without checking in with the office first.
