This Week at Sunnybrae PS – March 4 to 8, 2024
Principal’s Message: We welcome Mrs. Owen back to Sunnybrae next week and thank Mr. Rayner for his support over the past month. Teachers participated in several professional development sessions this month including using high impact instructional practices in math, providing descriptive feedback to students and planning through a lens of equity. It is exciting to see the learning put into practice. Carnaval was a success again this year despite the unpredictable weather. Merci Madame Shannon for organizing and leading this fun day for everyone!

Barrie Colts Game-March 7, 2024
If you purchased tickets for the Barrie Colts Game on March 7th:
- Tickets will be sent home on Monday/Tuesday (we will send an email on the day they will go home so you will know to look for them)
- If you purchased tickets through more than one child in your family we will send them home with the oldest child.
- If you wish to pick up the tickets instead of us sending home with your child please email the school at [email protected] by Monday, March 4th at 9:00 am.
Lunch Program Notes - Reminder:
- Orders can be cancelled two days prior to the date of the lunch through lunchbox
- When buses are cancelled the pizza orders will be cancelled and a refund issued through lunchbox.
- When buses are cancelled the sub program will still run. We will refrigerate subs for absent students and give to them the following day if they are at school.
Rainbows Support Program - for students grieving a loss
We are happy to announce that the Rainbows program is again being offered at Sunnybrae! Rainbows peer support groups will be commencing in March for children at the school who have experienced death, divorce or separation in their families. The program consists of weekly sessions with a trained staff facilitator where small groups of similar aged students share their feelings and learn about such issues as self, trust, family and acceptance. Students will miss one class per week for the program.
Rainbows is not a counselling group but rather a place where children learn that they are not isolated in these feelings and that others, like them, are experiencing similar emotions. This program is most helpful when children have had about six months to deal with the most acute stage of loss. If any parent is interested in learning more about the program or thinks their child could benefit from the program, please let your child’s teacher know or contact Kerri McKay at [email protected] or Elizabeth Lawrence at [email protected].
