Message from the Principal: We are thrilled to have Mrs. Potter covering for Mrs. Owen for a few weeks. She is supporting our math instruction ensuring that we are using effectively high impact instructional practices to help close gaps in learning and improve problem-solving skills. One strategy we use is small group instruction. Mrs. Sedenger, our math lead, has created math manipulative kits for every class to use during small group instruction. These small groups are created by teachers based on student need to address specific concepts and skills identified through observations, conversations and tasks. Playing math games or talking about math concepts (e.g., time, money, measurement, etc.) at home helps students build mathematical confidence and a positive attitude toward math.

- Jan. 29th: Intermediate Boys Basketball Game at Hyde Park PS after school
- Jan. 30th: Intermediate Girls Volleyball Game at Hyde Park PS after school
- Feb. 1st: Thompson’s class to Cricket Intramural’s at Eastview SS (Permission & Payment through schoolcash)

Barrie Colts Night-Thursday, March 7th at 7:00 pm
Sunnybrae School Council is having a fundraiser with the Barrie Colts Hockey Team. Have a night out enjoying a Barrie Colts game on Thursday, March 7th, 2024 at 7:00 pm at the Sadlon Arena on Mapleview Drive in Barrie.
- Tickets are $25.00 each (for over 2 years of age) and up to $6.00 from each ticket sold will be donated back to Sunnybrae PS (amount received depends on # of tickets sold).
- All proceeds will go towards athletics.
- Tickets must be purchased through schoolcash online and will be sent home with your child by March 5th, 2023.
- If you prefer to pick up your tickets you must inform the school office.
- The last day to purchase tickets is Feb 25th.
Winter Carnival-Feb. 9th
Our school is gearing up for an unforgettable event – the upcoming Winter Carnival based on Le Carnaval d’hiver in Quebec City. Friday, February 9th we will transform our school yard into a winter wonderland filled with joy, laughter, and festive activities for students in Grades 1-8. Our Kindergarten classes will have a Winter fun day celebration at a later date.
Please ensure your child is dressed warmly with layers, hats, gloves, snowpants and waterproof boots. Please send extra socks and mittens/gloves. We want everyone to stay cozy and enjoy the festivities to the fullest.
Additionally, we are in search of enthusiastic parents who would like to contribute to the success of the Winter Carnival by volunteering. If you are on the approved volunteer list and are available and willing to help out, please contact Danielle Shannon at [email protected].
